Hierarchical routing may be used in conjunction with Session simulations (see Chapter 36). Session-level simulations which are used for running multicast simulations over very large topologies, gains additionally in terms of memory savings if used with hierarchical routing. See simulation script tcl/ex/newmcast/session-hier.tcl for an example of sessionsim over hier rtg.
